I am very happy to be involved with the 5 A DAY 'Top Tips for Top Mums' campaign. It's really important that we encourage our children to enjoy eating more fruit and veg, but we know this isn't always easy. This campaign will help by giving parents the opportunity to share ideas which have worked for them and their families, and help kids to eat more fruit and veg.
I understand the problems us mums face, as kids can be so fussy when it comes to eating healthy food. And, as a busy mum, balancing lots of different day to day priorities, it's sometimes hard to make sure your kids are eating more healthily.
But, it can be easier than you think to get more fruit and veg into their diet. With the help of some 'Top Tips' from other parents, I've managed to get my kids to eat more fruit and veg, which is great!
P.S. We would like to hear about and share your 'Top Tips' with other parents, so please email them to us. Come back soon as there will be lots more 'Top Tips' information available to help you and your family eat more fruit and veg.

What prevents your children from eating more healthily?
Try some 'Top Tips' which could help you and your family.
- My kids are fussy eaters
- I think fruit and veg costs too much
- I'm not really a fan of cooking and lack confidence in the kitchen
- I don't have enough time for cooking
- I don't always have time for organising a family meal
"I make up stories about the food we're eating. I pretend that parsnips are chips to get my son to eat them and call spaghetti bolognaise 'worms' which always works. I chop up veg into small pieces and hide veg in the spaghetti sauce so he gets his 5 A DAY."
Rebecca Smith
"Freeze fruit purees as ice lollies - kids love them."
Patsy Palmer
"To save money, I look out for offers on fresh fruit and veg, particularly when it is in season, as well as buying tinned and frozen too... which is just as good! Also, I find that supermarket's own brand can be cheaper than other makes."
Eleanor Smith
"I buy frozen melon to defrost and give to my children to nibble as a snack if they get peckish. It's a lot cheaper than fresh melon and is always available."
Gemma Sawyer
"Let kids taste food while it's cooking (making sure food isn't too hot to taste) or let them choose which veg toppings to put on a homemade pizza, so they feel involved."
Rebecca Foster
"Make meat or veg casseroles, add chopped vegetables and have with rice. The kids can't taste the veg, it all tastes delicious, add herbs and spices to taste."
Patsy Palmer
"To try and save time preparing food, I make quick meals like stir-fries or start cooking a casserole in the morning so it's ready for the evening. Omelettes are also really quick and you can add loads of mixed vegetables to them, such as onions, spinach, sweetcorn."
Clair Upson
"Freeze small amounts of mashed up veg. You can defrost and use the veg whenever you need to, especially if you're short of time."
Dawn Lockley
"I make sure I sit down with my kids twice a day as it's probably the only time we get to spend together without any distractions around us. I make sure we all eat the same food - this paired with sitting down at meal times definitely makes a huge difference on how much fruit and veg my kids eat, as they aren't concentrating all their attention on not liking something."
Neil Edwards
"Try eating meals with your kids, it's a great way to spend more time together as a family. If they see you eating fruit and veg, they are more likely to eat it too."
